"Do you ever feel lonely…? You're in a big, big world and only…"
PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE PLAYING!!!
OVERVIEW Watch.jar is a ARG-style psychological horror mod that transforms Minecraft into a tense, unpredictable world where the most terrifying element is the feeling of being watched. The mod distorts the world, modifies the interface, and triggers environmental events to create a uniquely unsettling experience.
- Recommended: Play without other mods.
- Recommended: No shaders or resource packs.
WARNING: Contains flashy jumpscares, sudden visual and environmental events. Not suitable for users who are photosensitive or easily frightened
ISSUES:
Sometimes world generation bugs out and the game starts lagging badly. If that happens, close the game using Task Manager. When you load back into the world, some of your progress may be gone because Minecraft falls back to an older save file. I don’t know why this happens yet, but I’ll try to fix it in a future update Sometimes creating a new world will make the loading screen stuck at 100%. The only way to fix it is to close the game using Task Manager and create a new different world.
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES: The mod modifies Minecraft’s interface and behavior to create a psychological horror experience. It may temporarily disable UI buttons, adjust settings such as render distance, take local in-game screenshots, launch certain system applications purely as visual effects, retrieve the local system time and date, and trigger scripted client crashes. It may also temporarily control the cursor within the game window to navigate menus or adjust settings, but all input control ends automatically when gameplay resumes or the game is closed. These behaviors are fully local, session-bound, and do not persist, transmit data, or access any files or network resources beyond the actions listed.
SAFETY & PRIVACY: Watch.jar is fully local and session-bound. It adapts if any system capability is unavailable or blocked. The mod does not collect, store, or transmit any data, does not execute arbitrary code, and has no internet access. Closing or restarting the game fully restores control. Camera access is never used to capture images, video, or personal data. Any system Camera app that opens is purely a visual scare element and can be immediately closed. The mod only checks camera availability to determine whether to display alternate messages or effects.
COMPATIBILITY:
- watch.jar is designed to work on Linux and macOS, but full functionality is not guaranteed. The mod was primarily developed and tested on Windows (7–11), so you may encounter issues on other operating systems.
- watch.jar was built for a mostly vanilla world. Mods that add or change biomes, structures, or world generation may cause unexpected behavior or break features entirely. Some setups may work, but compatibility is not guaranteed. If you run into problems while using other mods, please contact me via support.
THE EXPERIENCE (SPOILERS)
-
A Beautifully Broken World: The mod forces the game back into a distorted Release 1.8 generation. You’ll encounter glitched landscapes, such as villages submerged underwater, missing terrain segments, and unnervingly narrow, claustrophobic caves.
-
Spawns: Most of the natural are disabled.
-
Loss of Control: The UI is no longer your own. Buttons may be disabled, including the Quit button.
-
Events: Environmental events trigger when you least expect them. Dirt pillars appear behind your back, random strip mines carve through your caves, and even the animals may lash out with rare, violent jumpscares when provoked.
-
Entities: This mod adds a few entities to your world. Each entity does something unique.
watch.jar story-mode (SOON)
🔜 This project will later contain multiple versions, including watch.jar Story-mode.
Story-mode is currently in development and not included in this release. It has been worked on for months and I am planning to release it soon.
Players will be able to select which version to download from this project when it is published.
Story-mode differences:
Story-mode will not include:
- Desktop/window name detection
- Timezone or system time usage will not be displayed, but used for the story progression
- Cursor control
- Camera-related scare events
- OS-level interaction effects
Story-mode focuses on in-game narrative, atmosphere, scripted events, and psychological storytelling rather than system-level immersion.
SUPPORT:
You are not alone. Not in your world. Not in your menus. Not even in your system.
